Why use an AV-specific switch instead of a regular network switch?

Accepted Answer

AV protocols (Dante, AVB, AV-over-IP) need consistent low latency, IGMP snooping for multicast, QoS and often PoE — and the wrong default settings on a generic switch can drop audio packets. AV switches ship with the right profiles pre-loaded.

Do I need PoE for Dante?

Accepted Answer

Many Dante devices (mic preamps, network endpoints, ceiling mics) are PoE-powered, so PoE/PoE+ ports save you from running separate power. Check each device's power class to size the switch correctly.
